Vietnam is cracking down on prank telephone callers with the government proposing fines and even criminal charges against offenders.
A proposal from the Ministry of Posts and Telematics calls for fining prank callers VND5-10 million (US$312-625) for harassing or libeling someone through calls or text messages. Those making hoax calls to emergency numbers will have to pay up to VND500,000. The ministry also said it would ask the police to consider filing charges in serious cases.
