Hi tech park in vietnamHoa Lac Hi-Tech Park under development near Hanoi attracted projects worth US$1.2 billion in the first half of the year, according to its management. Work on building infrastructure has been speeded up at the 1,650-ha park in Ha Tay province – the country’s first multi-functional economic and technological complex – and land will be made available to investors soon.

The park emerged as a destination for Japanese investors following the Vietnam-Japan common statement signed last year, and is one of three projects given top priority by the two governments.

Many Japanese behemoths like Matsushita Electric Industrial Corp., Nippon Oil, Mitsubishi, and Nippon Steel plan to invest here.

The government has tasked Hanoi-based technology giant FPT to plan the park’s layout and provide services for investors.

The Japan International Co-operation Agency is also doing a study of the park, to be completed in October, with focus on its current status, obstacles to its development, and identifying priority projects.

The first tenant is set to move into the park later this year.
