Overseas Vietnamese visa exemption coming in September Print

Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phu BinhOverseas Vietnamese and their families will be able to obtain from September a five-year visa exemption certificate allowing multiple entries and a stay of up to three months at a time, an official has said. Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phu Binh told a gathering of overseas Vietnamese while visiting Italy last week that the government was finalizing legal documents for the purpose.

They would, however, still fulfill certain formalities to obtain the certificate.

Binh, who also doubles as chairman of his ministry’s Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, did not elaborate but said they would be in place by September 1.

Visiting Vietnamese expatriates would then just need to produce their passport and the certificate to enter the country, he said.

He also touched upon policies allowing overseas Vietnamese to buy houses in Vietnam, saying those committed to long-term investment in the country and cultural and scientific experts who visited or resided in the country and contributed to the country’s development would be eligible.

Overseas Vietnamese who wished to settle in the country after retirement or those that had resided there for at least six months continuously would also be permitted to buy homes.
